Norris takes McLaren's first win of 2026!

The reigning world champion returned to the podium for the first time this season

Norris enjoys more Miami success

Following a difficult start to the season for the 2025 World Champion and his team, Norris delivered an easy victory in the Miami Sprint, making it back-to-back wins in the Miami Sprint. McLaren enjoying a first 1-2 of the season with Piastri 3.7 seconds behind Norris, ending Mercedes' perfect win streak in 2026. With no Mercedes in the top 3. The upgrades brought by McLaren proving their value, with the 2 Papaya cars taking first and second without any real threat throughout the race. Promising signs for them at a track they have enjoyed much success at in recent years.

No Mercedes on the podium

For the first time this season, not only did Mercedes fail to win, neither of their driver managed to finish in the top 3. The shorter race distance of the sprint maybe not allowing enough time for their strong tyre degradation to come into effect as it may do in the Grand Prix. But it was yet another poor start from Championship Leader Kimi Antonelli. Dropping from 2nd to 4th at the start. Whilst his teammate had work to do starting 6th, off the start Russell got ahead of Max Verstappen, who enjoyed an entertaining battle with Lewis Hamilton in the early stages of the race. Antonelli was desperate to make moves to reclaim a top 3 spot, trying moves on Leclerc at turn 8 and 11, prompting the Ferrari driver to go on the team radio to say: "Kimi is so bad at wheel-to-wheel, I feel like we're going to crash". Antonelli crosses the finish line in 4th, however was handed a 5 second penalty for track limit infringements, which meant he dropped to 6th, behind Russell and Verstappen

Gasly continues point scoring streak

It was yet another strong showing from the Frenchman who took the last point scoring position to continue his and Alpine's impressive early season form. Gasly just a point behind 7th place Ollie Bearman in the drivers championship, as Haas are maybe losing early pace seen in Australia and China. Alpine just a point behind Haas in the hunt for best of the rest (P5) in the Constructors Championship as well. Gasly's teammate Franco Colapinto is also starting to find his feet with a P10 finish in the sprint, no points for him unfortunately, but promising signs for the Argentine.

Reliability issues continue to plague Audi

Nico Hulkenberg was unable to compete in the Miami Sprint after his Audi caught fire whilst completing his lap to the grid in pre-race procedures, his power unit being the component which caught fire. It means a difficult job ahead for the crew at Audi try have his car ready for Qualifying in just a few hours. His teammate Gabriel Bortoleto did finish 11th in the sprint, however he was disqualified just hours after, his car's engine intake air pressure being found to exceed the limit. Another issue Audi will need to work out how to fix before Qualifying if they want any car to take part. But car and reliability issues are becoming a far too common occurrence for the team in their first year as Audi.
